Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Volvo buses launched an autonomous electric bus on 5 March 2019. The bus is full sized, 12m in length with 36 seats and additional standing capacity.

It is planned to test the bus at NTU Singapore campus and to subsequently extend the route.

The on road trails would be attended by a human safety operator in the driving seat. The intention is to develop the technology to level 4 automation where an on-board human operator would not be available.
